VALIN Xiangtan Steel’s No.2 bar rolling line is now world-class and state-of-the-art, thanks to the successful refurbishment of the plant’s breakdown mill by CISDI Equipment Co.

The BDCD mill is one of CISDI’s core developments for long products rolling. Its successful hot commissioning at Xiangtan Steel in China’s Hunan Province allows large-reduction rolling to begin and will achieve an annual output of 1.20 million tonnes.

CISDI supplied the BDCD1,100mm and its supportive electric, hydraulic and lubrication systems, and provided technical assistance during onsite commissioning.

Challenges faced included a tight delivery and commissioning schedule and complicated disassembly and re-assembly conditions.

From rebuild to hot commissioning took 45 days, and immediately automatic rolling followed. CISDI’s equipment and services won high praise from the client.

CISDI Equipment Co has now supplied eight standardised breakdown mills to 22 Chinese production lines.

BDCD650-1,450mm mills feature world-leading, state-of-the-art operating levels and have the following advantages:

-        self-reliant large-reduction rolling process – remarkably enhancing special steels performance

-        super integrated mechanical-electro-hydraulic systems – enabling unattended (fully automated) rolling

-        high precision

-        extended service life of rolls and bearings

-        easy access for operation and maintenance.

In 2021 CISDI successfully refurbished BDCDs at China’s Xingcheng and Daye Special Steels, benchmark projects for Chinese-manufactured breakdown mills.
