Seven heats have been continuously cast from a new 6-strand flat bloom caster at Jianlong Group Ningxia.
The continuous caster was built and commissioned in record time.
It was designed and supplied by CISDI, who also provided technical assistance during its installation.
The hot-tested steel grade was Q195 and the first blooms were good quality, with a 165mm-thick and 400mm-wide specification.
The caster was required to have an annual production capacity of 2.05 million tonnes and will produce carbon structural, low-alloy high-strength and quality carbon structural steels. Their specifications feature a 165mm thickness and a width range of 400 to 500mm and a cut-to-length range of 9,000 to 11,000mm.
A host of CISDI core tech was applied:
- the vertical curved caster, ensuring inclusions surface
- small-calibre rollers, closely packed, helping reduce strand’s deformation ratio
- super-efficient blog-free nozzles, improving cooling control
- roller tables for transporting blooms, bridging different roller surface elevations between casting and rolling shops.
Successful construction and commissioning of the caster was ensured thanks to teamwork and good communications with the client and the builder,” said a CISDI spokesperson.
“We had a tight schedule to meet, there were multiple tasks to perform and the construction process was difficult. But we kept morale high throughout and the seven-month and 18-day schedule beat the record for China’s casting sector.”
