Breaking ground at Changqiang Steel’s OD 127mm special steels tube rolling line project

A project to create a special steels pipe rolling line at Changqiang Steel in China’s Jiangsu Province has broken ground.

CISDI will build the line to an EPC mode and supply its state-of-the-art 3-roll mandrel pipe mill.

Based at the Jingjiang Industry Park in Jingyin City, the Changqiang line will mainly produce pipe with an outer diameter of 127 mm.

CISDI’s hi-tech mill has already been applied successfully at Fengbao Steel’s OD 89mm, Dalipal’s OD 159mm, VALIN Hengyang’s OD 89mm and Chengde Steel’s OD 127mm pipe rolling lines.  

Changqiang Steel’s line will cover a 200,000-square-metre area and is scheduled to start-up in June 2024. Its projected annual production capacity is 200,000 tonnes and will include high-quality oil country tubular goods (OCTG), pipeline and boiler pipes.

Product size will range from 32-140mm in outer diameter, 3.5-16mm wall thicknesses and lengths of 6-13mm.

The project consists of a tubular stock preparation line, a mandrel pipe rolling line and three pre-finishing lines.

All equipment will be designed and manufactured by CISDI, from regenerative rotating/annular heating furnace to cone type piercer, 3-roll mandrel pipe mill, stretch reducer and 6-roll cross straightener.

CISDI solutions cover a project’s full life-cycle, from design to manufacturing and technical assistance for commissioning. They can be adapted to a wide range of product specifications – from OD 76mm to 508mm, to a thinnest wall depth of 3mm - and with a wall thickness control precision of plus and minus 5 to 7 per cent.

These technical advancements enable a 30-minute roll change time and achieve a rolling piece rate of over 120 per hour and a yield ratio of more than 92 per cent.

The 3-roll mandrel pipe mill is now the preferred solution for seamless pipe rolling lines around the globe, thanks to its outstanding results in increasing production capacity, efficiency, quality and automation control levels.

CISDI is continually researching and developing advancements in critical tech for the highly-efficient, optimal-quality 3-roll mandrel pipe mill package.

Its three major pieces of equipment, which have been awarded around 20 patents, are the 2-roll cross cone-type piercer, the 3-roll retained mandrel pipe mill and the heavy-tension stretch reducer.
