A smart water centre has been put online at Shandong Steel’s Rizhao Plant in China’s Shandong Province.

CISDI built phase I to an EPC mode. It is the second of its kind, the first having been in operation at Baosteel Zhanjiang in China’s Guangdong Province since 2020.

The water centres at Rizhao and Zhanjiang are enabling the two steel plants to meet a joint single production capacity of 10 million tonnes a year.

To create a green, smart Shandong Steel, CISDI has launched a platform plus scenario model to synergise process mechanism-based digital tech with the steel plant’s water efficiency control and its labour performance.

CISDI built an integrated, smart water control platform at the Rizhao plant, covering all water systems, water supply and drainage pipeline networks.

The entire water cycle is digitally displayed and managed at the platform - from supplying to cleaning, transport and distribution, consumption and recovery. Optimised arrangements of these water systems and their coordinated operation creates a unified scheduling.

Behind the platform, a variety of smart applications at all water system scenarios deeply connect with process mechanisms.

For example, the water cleaning system features multi-source assisted scheduling, multi-tank level controlling and zero waste water discharge smart-APPs, in addition to big data forecasting and process simulation tech. This has enabled the transformation of conventional mechanised and manual control to automated, smart and precise operational control. The result is a flexible, higher-quality production.

The water transport and distribution system makes scientific decisions based on the supply line’s dynamic volume, pressure and quality data. This has been achieved by digital pipeline network and optimal supply pressure line smart-APPs, a high-precision supply line real-time model and unmanned smart patrol unit, and the cutting-edge algorithm. Water losses have been reduced in the pipeline network and it is easier to maintain.

The platform also enables smart ops management of the critical water system equipment throughout its entire life-cycle, which is indispensable to the systematic operation. It’s achieved by applying pump unit and filtering tank health diagnosis processes and digital twin-based equipment diagnosis.

CISDI’s smart water solutions feature a deep synergy between the process mechanism, big data and artificial intelligence tech and the water system’s scenarios. They digitalise the water plant’s operation, management and production, which empowers the sustainable growth of the steel enterprise.
