Innovative high-strength strip quenching process features the latest pre-cooled quencher and intensified straightener

CISDI and Baosteel’s three and a half year project to develop the world’s first intensive thin strip heat treatment line has paid off.

Intensive research and development work by the consortium has produced a line which can efficiently and intensively produce strip to a specification of 2,050mm.

The line, which has now been ramped up at Baosteel’s workshop, is a world-first and eradicates conventional production restrictions. Ultra-high-strength strip can be produced continuously and very efficiently.

Strip thinner than 3mm is very lightweight and is becoming sought-after.

The team’s design work began in November 2020 and centred around a new quenching process. Then breakthroughs were made with equipment, namely the development of a pre-cooled quencher and an intensified straightener.

Its key goals of achieving intensive and efficient production, optimal quality and low emissions have been surpassed. Indicators for quality, profile, efficiency and energy consumption are outstanding.

CISDI and Baosteel’s development is set to become a highly attractive purchase for steel organisations pursuing higher profit margins.
