Empowering Chinese plants to go green - new orders for CISDI’s 3R C-H blast furnace

CISDI is celebrating after a further five of its transformative, green 3R C-H blast furnaces have been contracted by Chinese steel giants.

Three will be built at Zenith Nantong in China’s Jiangsu Province after an order was placed in July. Zongheng Steel in China’s Hebei Province placed an order for two for its phase II in May and they are currently under construction.

The world’s first 3R BF1&2 simultaneously went into operation at Zongheng’s phase I in May 2023. They are running stably and smoothly and performing to world-class technical indicators.

Each furnace’s average gas replacement ratio is over 0.5kg per cubic metre.

An annual carbon emissions reduction of 400,000 tonnes, which is equivalent to a 5-10 per cent continuous carbon reduction (compared with China’s conventional furnaces of the same volume).

The new orders herald a new horizon for the state-of-the-art low-carbon ironmaking tech, which has been well-proven in industrialisation and provides an economical and reliable method for reducing carbon emissions in large blast furnace ironmaking.

This tech answers the call for cutting carbon consumption at blast furnace – basic oxygen furnace plants, which account for around 90 per cent of China’s steel producers.

CISDI has made bold strides in low-carbon smelting process innovation. Its developments make full use of excess gas resources and recycle reducing gases – which effectively controls solid carbon consumptions at source.

Research and development of the 3R C-H BF, its applications and marketing reach have consolidated CISDI’s aim of empowering steel producers to reach peak carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality within set timeframes.

CISDI unveiled its 3R C-H BF tech and news of its global first operation to the steel sector at the 14th Annual Meeting of The Chinese Society for Metals in October 2023.

Its multiple advanced technologies reap the following economic, social and environmental benefits:

           Coupled carbon-hydrogen intensified reducing

Gas injection power regulation system (IPS) and deep decarbonisation

Collaborative injection of gas and coal powder

Smart regulation of blast furnace conditions.

When all seven of the 3R C-H ironmaking pioneers are in operation, they will make history as they bring about the industrialisation of large BF smelting’s carbon slump process.
