Our quest to boost production for AMKR and CSP

AMKR

CISDI is undertaking the design and supply of blast furnace 9’s top, proper, casthouse and slag granulation systems.

These rebuild engineering tasks and supplies will optimise production and improve the Kryvyi Rih plant’s competitiveness in Europe.

This is the first CISDI mega blast furnace reference for the European market.

ArcelorMittal, a global steel giant, has four blast furnaces. No 9, built in 1974, has an effective volume of over 5,000mand is one of the world’s earliest large blast furnaces. Its hot metal output volume accounts for half of the AMKR plant’s total.

To ensure smooth implementation of the rebuild, the first tranche of CISDI’s team have now visited the project site to fulfil their first stage of contractual obligations. Discussions on designs have been carried out, and meetings held to clarify next work steps with local partners.

AMKR has voiced its appreciation of the CISDI team’s dedication and applauded its widely-recognised expertise in mega blast furnaces.

CISDI and AMKR staged a brainstorming session to discuss how ongoing work meets rebuild engineering requirements and construction restrictions. Exacting design standards and linguistic and cultural differences are among the challenges being met

 

The onsite team is keeping on track with engineering interfacing thanks to the support of CISDI headquarters in Chongqing. More team members will be arriving at the site in coming months and regular online meetings are held with CISDI HQ to find solutions and optimise designs.

 

 

CSP

A CISDI team is now in Brazil to provide technical assistance in the creation of a new hot stove and the rebuild of two existing stoves at Companhia Siderúrgica do Pecém.

CISDI won the orders in 2019, but the pandemic delayed delivery and implementation.

Both companies have worked closely together, sparing no effort to push on with design, supply and technical support.

To get back on schedule, CISDI prioritised major work while working to address other details. Smoothing coordination throughout the design, procurement, manufacturing and logistics processes has enabled the supply schedule to be met.

Weekly video meetings are held to supervise the construction process. Online meetings allow in-depth discussion of particularly difficult problems and provide technical support when construction issues arise.

CISDI continues to organise visa applications and work according to Brazil’s pandemic safety policies for more staff who need to travel to the site.

CISDI’s team were given a physical examination and took part in safety training before entering the site. The team will provide 3-6 months of technical assistance for stove commissioning and hot blast pipe system modification.

Work carried out in March was a prelude to across-the-board commissioning. CISDI’s on-site team optimised construction proposals and addressed site problems. A CISDI engineer is pictured checking construction status and advising on refractory bricking.
